[Dclug] internet connection with public IP

Sorry for replying late in the thread, but I just had to speak up on this 
one...

Surprisingly, you can be in rather new communities and not have many other 
choices than IDSL. Where I am, we can't get regular DSL, and for years 
cable internet wasn't available either, and these are houses built in 
Cascades in Sterling, VA in '99 and 2000. Only about 5 miles from the AOL 
and Worldcom campuses.

Now we can get Adelphia's cable modem offering, but when I signed up, 
their website was still making it look like it was unavailable here. So I 
had been using IDSL for a while before that. Adelphia was slow to roll out 
the internet service, that's for sure.

The official excuse for the lack of DSL service here is "insufficient 
copper resources"... which I took to mean that there was fiber in there 
somewhere. And yet, they're not offering FIOS here either.

It's a bandwidth wasteland on my side of Cascades, despite being a 
centrally located yuppieland.
