I remember that one doesn't want to call a primary timeserver like
e.g. NIST. A tertiary timeserver will work well for me. Does
calypso run a timeserver, or gwyn? or what should I use?

hThank you for remembering that everyone should not gang up on poor
time.nist.gov. Actually, both RedHat and NTP.org have started NTP
pools, which are load-balanced, so I would recommend synching against
those. To test,

ntpdate -d clock.redhat.com

Other addresses that you can use in ntpdate and ntpd.conf are
clock{1,2,3}.redhat.com and pool.ntp.org

Actually, you are asking about one-off corrections to the time, but I
actually recommend running NTP (ntpd), unless the box in question is
rarely connected to the network.. All the above sites run NTP
protocol, rather than say 'rdate'. You can still use them for one-off
setup via ntpdate, though
