And, after a bunch of searching, I discovered that it
failed because of my /etc/network/interfaces, which was:
# Used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8). See the interfaces(5) manpage or
# /usr/share/doc/ifupdown/examples for more information.
Sheesh! So I copied in the full file from my backup;
here it is:
# Used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8). See the interfaces(5) manpage or
# /usr/share/doc/ifupdown/examples for more information.
# Alan put in the next stuff, from my old etc, on 22 May 08
# The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
# The primary network interface
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
(just thought you'd want to know<G>)
I suppose the Debian etch install didn't give me the above, because
I decided to configure the network by myself<G>.
Sorry to disturb everyone's peace and tranquillity, And thanks
to Mackenzie and Mike for their friendly responses.
