Overlapping sets. "Free" [beer] software exists that is not "free"
[speech]. And vice versa.
I still don't get where "Libre" fits in, plus I think "FLOSS" and gloss
over are too close in sound. Seriously. That's why the Chevy Nova was
re-named in Spanish-speaking countries - who wants a car that doesn't go
(no va)?
Messages: alternatives to MS, control over "your" software [you own
control, not the software], fantastic efficiency on both hardware and
virtual servers.
Hook: "FREE and Open Source" - "FREE" always gets people, "Open Source"
will get those who are now free to look at this and wonder what it is.
Hook: "Multi-year Uptimes" - MS admins may not believe this.
Hook: "No Viruses EVER" - none infecting this system, anyway; still have
to do virus-checing for MSW viruses if such connect to the server.
Hook: ???
Available messages: brochures on FOSS philosophies, etc, saying WHY it
matters [so if the person doesn't agree they can put it down BEFORE
walking away], WHAT it is, and WHERE to get it. And so booth presenters
can pick them up and offer them to any who seem interested. Should
include not just the ethically-based philosophies, but also business
philosophies - how will it save money, who is responsible if I have
problems, why shouldn't I listen to the salesman with the horns and MS
goodies?
Speaking of WHERE - On-Disk.com has $1 beta eval disks, I wonder whether
they could send promo flyers with free distribution disks attached?
