Assembled Wisdom!

I have a very simple project, involving putting Big Thick text
onto a field.   The text tool works really nicely(after practice!) and
it has lots of fonts, but I'd like one with Thicker caps than the
ones provided.  Is there a repository somewhere of fonts, and a
technique for adding them?  I'm running etch, and GIMP version 2.2.13.

(If I have to I'll hand-draw the few letters that I need, but I thought
I'd try asking this question first.)
