Known to occur on certain hardware and kernel combinations. You may be able
to work around with a hal-info quirk.

Hi all. I searched the web but couldn't find anything about this
particular phenomenon. I am running ubuntu 8.10 and it sometimes
refuses to hibernate. As expected, the monitor goes blank except for
the pointer, except that, instead to shutting down the computer, it
brings up the password prompt that it would normally give me when the
screen is locked, which is supposed to happen when it comes out of
hibernation. So it looks like it's going right from going into
hibernation to coming out of hibernation without actually shutting
down the computer. When this happens, repeated attempts have the same
result until I reboot the system. The problem never occurs right after
I reboot. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks. Eli
