I just recently bought a Thinkpad X61s from some random reseller on
eBay. Brand new ones were selling for about $700 including shipping. I
got mine about a month and a half ago. Debian Lenny installed on it no
problem, though I manually fiddled with things to get all the acpi
buttons working (maybe Ubuntu handles all this automatically; maybe
Debian even does it if you install the desktop. I install everything
manually.)
However most of the ones I saw on eBay have Vista. What garbage; I wiped
it off. Performance on Vista was painful.
But this is good hardware if portability is important to you. I like the
size, and the low glare matte screen (I never thought this would become
a feature.) I wouldn't order from Lenovo, as they seem to have big
shipping problems.
