I've spent some time lately using a friend's Lenovo Thinkpad X300, and
I'd *seriously* consider the X300 or X301 as my next laptop (assuming I
ever save enough money to afford a laptop on my own!)  The laptop was
just the right size, had a *beautiful* screen, better keyboard than the
Dells, and actually has decent service and support.
