The SATA disks in my current system came with these adapters that were ATA to SATA power connectors.  They work fine.  But this is a modern system with and ATX power supply.

The hasle I had, when building the system, was that the power plug on my motherboard for the CPU had 8 pins, but the power supply only had 4.  That adapter cost me $12.00 at microcenter.
