[Ma-linux] notebook backlight repair

Toshibas were notorious for this exact issue, back in 2003 and later, up until recently. I've a beater Toshiba Satellite 1805-S274 that was sent out for repair 3 times for the backlight going out. Each time, they replaced the whole LCD. Later (last year, in fact), I found out that a class action lawsuit was filed because Toshiba didn't address the issue properly.
Once my machine went out of warranty, I went ahead and opened the lid. I saw what I now determine the inverter. I unplugged it and flipped the connector and plugged it back in. The backlight began functioning again. I've gotten a full year of use out of it and it began blinking in and out again only recently. This leads me to believe that my particular issue may not be the inverter but the connection to the inverter.
Once the thing stops functioning again, I'm relegating the laptop to server duty and putting it in a dark closet with the lid closed (permanently). This machine has tons of life left in it and I refuse to let it die because of a backlight issue (it also has external monitor capability).
Just some thoughts.
