Plus; you are dependant on a local battery to keep service,
a battery you must buy & replace as needed. Copper-fed service
gets its power from the CO.

And as for why you might want another provider...what happens
when Verizontal decides you are using VOIP or Youtube and they 
don't like it? Or you have exceeeded your invisible quota?
