Basically, (1) because it's what you have available to use, for whatever
reason, or (b) because you're using it to emulate another protocol.
But, yes, using the telnet DAEMON for an interactive shell session if
one has the option of using 'ssh' is probably less optimal for the
simple reason that using 'ssh' doesn't allow your password to be sent
over the network unencrypted - or any of the rest of the traffic in that
session.

The thing about this bug announcement that annoys me is that several
announcments have said that telnet should be disabled.  No.  NO!!!
Disable the telnet DAEMON, but LEAVE ME MY TELNET.

The thing that is annoying about this thread is that it immediately got
off its own topic, which was Sun's webinars.
