Ho hum, try "adduser" instead of "useradd"  You probably haven't copied
all the files from /etc/skel that X needs or something.  Debian/Ubuntu
is different than RH/FC in this aspect:  adduser does the job for you.
Also, are there any .Xauthority files in your login directories?
