(I'm looking into this equipment from Magellan not because I have one
but because I've got an ODBC reader that is "updatable" - in case you
are wondering, the error code says my transmission slips!)
following is from the FAQs on the web site
and it looks as if the interface software (product CD) runs an MS
executable
(The device will work without firmware updates, won't it? Just turn it
on, give it an hour to initialize, like with the satellite clocks, and
then operate the device itself. The connection to the PC is not
necessary except for POI data entries, although maybe these are
necessary for realistic operation, and the firmware update option.)
Frequently Asked Questions
Generic (all products)Question:
Can I interface my GPS receiver with a Macintosh?
Answer: At this time, Magellan products do not support Apple or
Macintosh.
It may be possible to connect your GPS to a Macintosh computer by
searching Apple.com for connectivity plugins under COM ports or serial
ports.
(as if the Apple will run a Windows executable)
Magellan Maestro 4000
Question: I'm receiving the following error installing the POI editor:
The InstallShield engine (ikernel.exe) could not be installed.
What can I do?
Answer:
Manually install the POI editor.
Open My computer from the Desktop or the Start Menu.
Right click on the CD/DVD ROM drive where the Maestro CD is installed.
Click on Explore.
