[Ma-linux] 3 questions regarding sound

1)ensoniq always worked reliably for me. I would check the kernel
menuconfig for clues on other chipset options.
2)I used streamer awhile ago to capture audio and video off of the
respective device files. Not sure if that is what you mean exactly.
vlc command line version might also do that.
3)SoX does audio conversions but you have to do some work to get mp3
support.
