Yes, famously, Microsoft used to use BSD :) It was not on their main 
site but on some subsystem, IIRC on Hotmail. When people started making 
fun of them because of it, they put up an IIS front end.

netcraft.com has great tools that tell the uptime and platform---but of 
course that is misleading because from the outside you can only see the 
front layer of website load management(*), so it doesn't really tell you 
anything authoritative about the architecture of the real website 
back-end, and in any case has no bearing on what the company is using 
internally.


(*) Specifically, many large websites show the OS as F5 BIG-IP which is 
an edge gateway
