If you turn off autonegotiation it must be turned off on both the NIC 
and the switch or you'll have an invalid configuration. It is best *not* 
to do this unless you have a NIC & switch combination that won't work 
with autoneg (e.g., older cisco switch & sun NIC) or you'll end up 
causing more problems than you'll solve. (A forced NIC with a autoneg 
switch will end up with a half-duplex switch and a full duplex host, 
which is bad.) Autoneg is a lot more reliable than it used to be, and 
forcing isn't a recommended practice with current hardware.
