I just did something similar in moving a Windows XP box from one hdd to
another. You can boot a Linux CD and use ntfsclone but be very careful of
the syntax. Rather than the standard "command source destination" it
requires "command destination source". Mix that up and you'll overwrite
your data with nothingness. First you'll need to create identically sized
partitions, then boot the Linux disc (I used knoppix) and copy. Once you
copy the drive you may need to put the backup into another Windows system
as the secondary drive and go into the disk administrator and set the
One more warning: I did this successfully on a 9GB drive but when I tried
it on an 85GB partition, which was supposed to take 12 hours, the system
hung at some point overnight. I ended up using ghost instead.
Last I checked ghost was about $80 so it may be worth it just to keep a
new copy lying around. Or if you have partition magic it'll copy volumes
Hope this helps.

I'd use ghost but some knucklehead has lost the media. My thought is boot a Linux CD on the box in question and the dd the windows partitions to another windows server (ie NTFS share). Doable? I'm open to suggestions. I need something that *will* work and *will* restore.
