twas muy annoying when I found my P-II wouldn't accept RH 9. The
install starts, but the python installer chokes (dunno whu) at
the end/cleanup of the install. That's why I've kept RH 6.1
around.
But lemme ask a question for those that roll their own (kernel,
that is). On my newest machine (P-III), FC4, I'm unable to
compile a kernel/etc small enough to make a boot diskette anymore.
I can do the rescue thing with CD now, but I'm curious - has
anyone here been able to compile the stock kernel source into
something small enough for a boot diskette recently, or are
those days gone? I'm aware of DamnSmallLinux, etc - I'm curious
about "standard" kernel compiles though. Or are the baby distros
standard with unusual compile tricks?
