  Again, Novalug is rocksolid.

  I changed channels, and now it is faster than before. No delays, or pauses.

  I did learn about some awesome tools, that I want to persue;

  kismet
  WiSPY
  Winshark

  I think Im headed for wardriving, and back into software dev and hardware. Testing... ugh... the challenge is quickly dying out.....

  I had a problem w/ the portable phone at my place - when my wife picked it up 10 ft. away, it dawned on me that was why my wifi connection was dropping - freq. is around 2500 MHz as I recall and changing channels on the wifi or phone doesn't do the trick. I tested: turn on the phone and the connection dropped!

I just use a phone that works at 900 MHz and get no interference. Microwave ovens sometimes interfere but not w/ my wifi - the microwave leakage must be quite small.

  I have a new Linksys wireless router, fed by Comcast in Sterling.

  It works great on the wired Ethernet ports talking to XP and linux desktops.

  During the daytime, up to 1130AM, it also works very well on a wireless laptop, with 128 bit encryption. However, at night, when I arrive at 830 PM, it has problems on wireless. No problem or bandwidth problems are notices on the wired PCs. Therefore, I dont think the cable modem feed is oversold.

  I read on Linksys FAQs, that the channel that is specified for the wireless boradcast can be interfered with by wireless phones that "talk" on the same channel as the wireless routers broadcast.

  Recently, I began using Wireshark on XP. Can Wireshark be used to monitor and depitct problems on the the wireless broadcast? What would it look like on the data that is displayed by Wireshark? I read that Wireshark can monitor, and even decrypt the packets.

  Does anyone have any ideas of how to determine the source of the problem on wireless at night?

  Wish I had a spectrum analyser.... oh well...

  Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
  Jim
