[Novalug] Slackware and USB disks

I tried installing SW11.0 on my WD Passport disk with limited success. I
went with the 2.6 kernel and did my own mkinitrd. I did get a shell, but
couldn't mount the real root.
Presumably, I didn't choose the magic combination of modules. I also
used the 2.4 kernel from the install. Maybe I should use "test26"
instead. Installation to an IDE drive followed by comparison of what
modules are added when the USB disk is plugged in might also prove
enlightening.
It's not a BIOS issue; the BIOS can boot USB disks directly.
Anyone have any other advice? Ed?
