[Novalug] Replacing Grub with LILO

Subbarao,

I had similar problems when I setup a triple boot system. The last distro
of linux that I installed "took over," i.e., wrote to the MBR and pointed
to the boot partition for the latest version, which also had the most
up-to-date menu.lst in /boot/grub. When I updated the older distro of
Linux, the kernel version changed and the info in the newer menu.lst was
wrong - hence the error upon booting. So, it may just be a job of finding
this new menu.lst and editing to point to the correct place. This can be
done after hand-feeding grub with edited commands - I think you get to
this with the Exc key.

How did I figure this out? With some reading, which was worth it, in
SuSE's admin guide (which is on-line) and the Grub how-to, followed by a
bit of piecing together of WHERE /boot was for each of the two Linux-es
and Winders. If you want pointer to these refs, let me know and I'll dig.
I elected to stick w/ grub 'cause it is better / more powerful - there is
a lot under the hood of this souped-up boot loader.

Good luck.
