I've also been hearing great things about Panda3D which can be used via
Python or C++:
http://www.panda3d.org/

It was written by Disney for their ToonTown game and is supposed to have
an easy learning curve and features for rapid development. They also
have free 3D models available on the site you could use for a simple
game.
