Does the SDLT have a changer? I have used Amanda going on 3+ years now, with
a tape library and changer and I have to say it has performed just fine. The
few problems I had were self inflicted (not watching to see when the drive
needed cleaning, then letting it go MORE months and getting a tape STUCK in
it) or not paying attention to the report that it can't back up server XYZ
and then suddenly needing XYZs files. Oops. As I said, all self inflicted. I
ran it for two years + on a single server with a VXA drive and we manually
rotated the tape each day, but I hate doing that :-)
The ONLY part of amanda I dont like is when doing offsite rotation. There
are some ways around that by using mutlitple configs and stuff but I found
it easiest just to let amanda do its own thing. If I want offsite rotation
and fancier stuff, I use Arkeia.
