That's fine.  Thanks.  I'm actually glad for the comments about Dirvish, 
but I still wanted to see if I could get an answer to the original 
question. :p  I started out just using a one-liner rsync command for the 
longest time as an alias, then I moved to a script.  Now I'm trying to 
make one script that will let me do more than one machine.

Maybe that's good enough.  Just install a base OS, and tell Dirvish to 
restore, and it'll do the rest?  Does  it let you change the rsync 
options?  Also, I wouldn't want it to backup [so it won't restore] /tmp, 
/proc, /var/tmp, or /sys, and now with newer kernels /dev.  Actually it 
shouldn't backup /var/run either, but I've noticed that things don't 
always follow FHS exactly ;)
