I've been told by a number of people that writing on a burned CD or DVD 
with a Sharpie is a Bad Idea because it will damage them. However, I 
haven't noticed any damage and I haven't found anything definitive about 
this.

Does anyone *know* whether this is true? I know there are people out 
there selling expensive alternatives to Sharpies claiming they are 
"safe", but I also get a lot of e-mail about herbal remedies too.
