It seems that questions about hardware recommendations are a fairly common
request on mailing lists.  This is a good thing, since everyone benefits
from the discussion.  However, the recommendations necessarily change over
time--the current answer to "what's a good HD enclosure?"  or "can someone
recommend a laptop?" is (probably) going to be far different from two years
ago.

There was some talk a while back about regarding the NoVALug website, and
the possibility of adding a wiki.  I'd think that a "recommendations"
section/category could be a useful section, along with all of the other
stuff that would get put in there.  This would provide a place for specific
recommendations (and why), along with a history and discussion.

Speaking of wikis, was a decision ever made about doing this?  I recall some
discussion from back in Feb/March, but don't recall what came of it.
