[Novalug] Mandriva and RPMs

Greetings:

I have recently inherited a Mardriva box (thanks, JS) and need to install software on it.  My Mandriva knowledge is nill.  It appears that it supports the RPM package manager.

Question:  Are all RPM packages the same?  For instance, I wish to install the TightVNC package and can find RedHat rpms easily.  Can/will RedHat rpms install properly?  The answer to my is question is to try it - which I will do once it press "send".  I wondering if there is any danger / gotchas to this.  My concern is that the rpms are labeled "RedHat" but I see no other distros named in this fashion.
