[Novalug] plugin (java) install in mozilla/firefox/iceweasel

Hi,

so that I can better appreciate the beautiful satellite images
of hurricanes that NOAA puts on the web (at www.nhc.noaa.gov)
I downloaded the java plugin that is needed to see the 'loop',
a sequence of individual pictures that show how the storm develops.
But, what I did doesn't work, and I can't find a clue to the problem.

Before, I click on the 'loop': it tells me I need a plugin.

I downloaded the java plugin (jre1-etc), and followed the instructions.
This gives me the java software in the right directory
(/usr/java/jre1.6.0_02). I also made a link to
/usr/java/jre1.6.0_02/plugin/i386/ns7-gcc29/libjavaplugin_oji.so
(in the directory /usr/lib/iceweasel/plugins/)

Now, I click on the 'loop', and iceweasel (=firefox) croaks.
I can restart it, and it is back at the previous point.

Any idea what the problem is, and what to do about it?

Thank you,

Nino
