They put a few safeguards in place, but nothing major...  for some
topics, anonymous users are not allowed to make edits.  For some
topics, new accounts aren't allowed to make edits.  And then some
topics are monitored pretty closely.  I would call it a "speedbump to
entry".

I've been making updates here and there for about 2 years...  and
usually my updates are tweaking entries when I find (verifiably) wrong
information or asking for citations on questionable edits and
accusations.
