[Novalug] what about the euro symbol?

Hi,
during my third-favorite activity, talking about money, I find myself
wanting the symbol for the european common currency, the euro, on a
normal US keyboard through which I communicate with my linux debian
machine.
I acknowledge that the euro symbol is not on a par with the almighty
dollar ($: above the '4'), although it might be logical to re-evaluate
this statement since the dollar is now only 0.68 euros. Still, the euror
might hide itself behind some other symbol modified by a control or
alt (or both).
Googling for this I find lots of discussion, but no answer in the form
of a (series of) simple keystroke(s) that I can understand.
Does a euro sign exist? if so, where? and what about other special
symbols that one may want to have? Is this related to 'keymapping'? and
if so, how?
Any suggestions? Thank you.
Nino
