I pushed it twice and flub once, until I found a Vmware related link
that showed how to de-lock that section of the XP registry.

Once when I switched from using qemu to vmware for my virtual machine
controller. And later when I was testing and increased the memory by a
large amount.
(: I never could get qemu's sound and/or networking support working
reliable. (Hey I was still using the same real hardware all along.) :)

The other time when I increased the real memory in my portable from
512K to 4 Gig, but after a while I gave up and reduced to just 2 Gig and
XP was happy again.
(Ubuntu 7.04 on the same hardware can see and make use of all 4Gig when
I have the extra chip in place, but of course I can no longer dual boot
until I first remove the extra chip.)

A young man goes into a computer games shop. He says to an assistant "I
want a challenging computer game with lots of graphics. It should be
difficult, confusing and have plenty of contradictions to keep me busy".

The assistant replies "Have you tried Windows XP?"
