Yes, XP already had an activation requirement.  However, Windows Genuine
Advantage was not installed on your computer in XP unless you used
Windows Update or Microsoft Update, or you used Internet Explorer to
download something from a Microsoft web site.  So with XP, upgrading
your video driver like so many applications, especially games, suggest
you do doesn't deactivate XP.

Vista has WGA included out of the box and something as simple as
upgrading your video driver can deactivate Vista.

Meanwhile, someone seems to be making fun of WGA by setting up a "Linux
Genuine Advantage" web site.  http://www.linuxgenuineadvantage.org/
