Hello,
I am looking to add two backup/storage servers, they will backup to file
system (using most probably http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/ ) all
production servers and laptops; and then sync over the network during night
time to our other remote location to provide "off site" backup storage.
As you can see not much processing power is needed so a solution with
multiple processors is not really needed. Dual core is just fine.
Gigabit eht is nice to have during local backups but useless during sync at
nights over the t1. I figure that once the initial sync/mirroring is done,
nightly syncs will be ok
Ive been looking at the following models:
1. Averdeen Stone Heaven x314
- 4.5TB
- AMD Opt. 2212 (dual core)
-$4695 as configured
2. Dell power Edge 2970
-3.5TB
-AMD 2210 1.8GHz
-$2,528 as configured
3. ASA Computers 3161A
-8TB
-CentOS Linux
-AMD 2212 2.0 GHz
-$5,076.00
Does anybody here has any preferences as to make and models? I usually buy
from dell and or Penguin Computing. Any other suggestions?
