Hi Gang,

Things are progressing marvelously on my journey to Linux, and away from XP. May it rest in peace.

The other day, a friend gave me CentOS, and I began to install it. I got up to the point of where it gives the option to create and adjust partitions. Frankly, I chickened out! Why? I dont want to lose the XP and XP apps that are installed on the drive.

Sooo... if any one is avail at this saturday's NOVALUG, and has experience using CentOS, or another flavor of Linux, and has time to help me split the drive into several partitions, for instalation of CentoOS, Id appreciate it. Phew, that was a long one.

I was advised to use PartitionMajic, which I dont have a copy of. (Frankly, I dont want to buy it if I only need it once!)

Id much rather do it the "Linux way", if possible. But if Im stuck with buying PartitionMajic? So be it....

Lastly, I guess I should concider backing up the drive BEFORE I do any re-partitioning. Is there a Linux tool that anyone has used that will backup an XP partition, that is on a Live Linux CD? The reason is, I can boot the Linux CD, then do the backup, then do the repartitioning.

I am amazed how far I have journeyed with the help of this LUG. Im becoming a LUG Nut, and love it!

I will bring my laptop, and i386 and i64/AMD Turion64 Live DVDs.

  TIA for any help.
  Jim
