All,
Suse Desktop Linux 10 has a feature which it refers to as Remote Desktop
which I enabled on a system that I am running. I assumed that enabling
it using the GUI would be sufficient but it appears that it is also
necessary to manually install a VNC server on the system. The one that
was visible in the list of installable software was
kdenetwork3-vnc
so that is what I installed. To complete the install I had to take out
the CD and mount it so the OS could read the requisite files for this app.
Is that the correct component?
What surprises me is that when I enabled Remote Desktop on this system
it did not automatically warn me that I have to perform this
installation of the VNC server if this is, in fact the, correct app to
be installed. The explanation at the Novell www site (provided below)
suggests that somehow the installed server will also work with an RDP
client, not just a VNC client:

kdenetwork3-vnc
Exporting of VNC and Connecting of VNC/RDP Sessions
This package contains tools for VNC/RDP usage:
KRfb - to allow remote access to your current desktop. krdc - a VNC/RDP
client, it can discover remote VNC sessions via SLP or connect to
manually specified rdp:// sessions.
KRfb allows to connect to kdm-VNC sessions or to provided desktops via
KRfb.
