man, what a question!
GAIM - best way to keep in touch with all my customers at once -
supports all the major IM protocols plus IRC
iFolder3 (client and server) - to keep my documents sync'd across
Linux, Mac and Windows laptops - run my own server in the basement.
Setup shared folders.
Ekiga - SIP client for Linux - because my SIP address is
"sip:pnuw at ekiga.net" not "sip:17475551212 at proxy01.sipphone.com"
(though I have one of those too)
GNOME Sound Recorder - for recording Jet Age rehearsals direct to .ogg
www.thejetage.net shamless plug. Simple two-track recording.
Helix Banshee - for burning said .oggs to CD for my bandmates after practice
good old xterm - because it does exactly what I need it to do :-D
flash 9 player - for playing monopoly on games.atari.com
tomboy - instant notetaking with linking and search
beagle - because I suck at filing :-)
mboxgrep - fast mbox search (this is actually from my old job)
bcharge/barry - charges my blackberry on Linux
