Well, it's not really "built on top of Sugar", it was a fork where
they took all the Enterprise/Pro features of SugarCRM and made them
free.  When the initial chaos happened, there were also some copyright
statements, etc removed and a find/replace rebranding.  It didn't take
long for vTiger to get back into compliance with the license, but
their response made it obvious that the whole thing was planned from
the beginning.

The vTiger crew basically pulled an Oracle on SugarCRM.... and I
personally refuse to have anything to do with them.
