[Novalug] keep loosing printer capability in Ubuntu

Periodically my Ubuntu installation looses the ability to send files to
my HP MP5 postscript Laser printer.
I know it is not hardware related because I can dual boot the computer
into an alternate (no windoze OS) and the printer and computer interact
just fine.
I recently tried to install a DTP program called Pagestream Pro 5.
Then I sent a page to the printer.
Some of the page printed out.
Then all the status lights on the printer went on at once.
Since then I can't get anything to print from Linus although stuff
prints ok from the other boot.
I have tried using the System>Adminstration>Printing tool to no
effect. The printing application sits there claiming it is printing but
nothing comes through on the printer.
I went into the printer application and deleted all the backed up jobs
but that has not helped with new things to be printed from the Linux
side.
Can anyone tell me what config files I need to look in?
Any help is appreciated.
