Pretty sure the gigabit *standard* is autosensing ports, including
NICs. You're supposed to be able to use a standard ethernet cord and
plug a machine directly into another machines NIC. No more crossover
cable necessary. However, my point was that most consumer switches
have autosensing ports, even in the the 10/100 models now.
Only posting for clarity on my part. :)
