I guess I answered my own question sort of
DSL down
Tried Live Ubuntu install - failed
Tried Alternate Disk Ubuntu install. Crashed after partitionse set up
because grub could not be installed

DSL sort of fixed (we are running a phone wire out the back door to the
grey verizon box cause it looks like the NID filtering the dedicated line
went bad last night) forwarded house phone to fax machine line

Put Ubuntu Live disk back in laptop.

Had to reconfigure the partitions - boot was too small

Ubuntu installation seems to be succussful now that DSL is back. Laptop
does have workng wireless card. Laprtop did run Ubuntu when it had the old
harddrive
