We need YOU to run for the Tux.Org Board of Directors!
As you know, Tux.Org was founded in November, 1999 to serve the
open source community with education, outreach and community. Our
ability to do all this is completely dependent on the donations of
hardware, software, network bandwidth, server facilities, event
booths, and, most importantly, VOLUNTEERS.
As we enter our eighth year of formal non-profit existence, we
seek to extend our reach both locally and nationally. To that end we
need to grow in mindshare and in foundation. We have already
increased our presence beyond FOSE to include LISA/USENIX '06 and the
Congressional Tech Caucus, as well as the great Linux Picnic this past
August.
To accommodate a larger foundation, we spent the last year going
through the by-laws with a fine-toothed comb to allow more people to
participate. Participation means that you would be able to attend
monthly meetings (held via IRC) and express your views on the
direction we should go in. Any level of Linux and/or software
knowledge is beneficial to the organization so you do not have to be
an expert at anything, just willing to be a part of it.
But we can't reach any further without a few more arms and legs.
We can't know what events to focus on without the right people. The
volunteers in place can't keep things going for everybody else
indefinitely.
It takes more than mailing list commentary to make all this
happen. We need your help.
The deadline for submitting your candidacy bio has been extended
from January 14 to January 31, 2007. We just need one or two more
people. You can learn more by visiting the elections information
pages at:
