About two years ago, I carried a couple of hard drives home with me in
carry-on luggage (in a backpack) without any problems. They were
wrapped in the original antistatic bags and were stuffed into a lump of
antistatic foam (drive-sized slots had been cut into foam). Aside from
being heavy, there were no problems. Airport security didn't even ask
about them.
