[Novalug] Hard Drive Data Recovery

$219 for hard data recovery?!?!?!

That is way too cheap to possibly be a clean room recovery. I have
used OnTrack* extensively at past jobs, $219 wouldn't pay a
technicians salary for a day, much less cover the equipment, rent,
support infrastructure and such. I couldn't trust a service that is
so under priced.

If the drive is clicking, it's probably a stuck control arm (happens
all the time). In a reduced dust environment you can open the case
and with the power turned on attempt to move the drive arm past the
sticking point, takes only a few minutes and works most of the time.
The drive will usually work long enough to recover the data (actually
I have one drive I did that to 7 years ago that's still humming along
fine).

Also don't forget to try tools like DDrescue* and Partimage* (from a
live CD) if you do fix a stuck control arm.
