In my VmWare Browser I am currently running Ubuntu Edge (7.04)
I got there by Upgrading Breezy to Dapper to Edge
{ Generally by doing a little editing of /etc/apt/source.list and
Update all the installed packages for each level and a little cleanup
after each update of a level. :-}
I'm currently running FireFox 2.0.04 with Java enable along with the
package:
sun-java6-plugins "The Java(TM) Plug-in, Java SE 6"
This is a metapackage containing dependencies for running Java in
various browsers.
{IE it cause a number of other package to be installed.}
And enables FULL Java support beyond that of simple java-script that the
browsers supply internally.

Long story shorten:
I went to the above web-site an select "Find a drop-off location" and
everything worked as one would expect it to.
{IE I was able to find the drop off locations near my place.}
On my regular desktop that is still current running Dapper 6.0.4 and
Firefox 1.5.0.12 and DOESN'T have the above package installed
everything also still WORKED {including the search}.
Are you sure you don't have a broken package somewhere?
