Nino,
Mike Stone gave the proper power-user answer of.
zcat /etc/console/boottime.kmap.gz | less
I don't know why but they have always by tradition compressed the boot
time keymap file.
Now for my little 'mc' plug:
Boy do I like "GNU Midnight Commander" (ie mc)
With 'mc' running navigate to the directory where the file is and
Highlight it (or select it) and press the F3 key to view the file and
'mc' will figure out how to display it as text for you.
And think of the ease of just pressing ENTER to look inside of or
even extract single files from .tar, .tgz, .zip, .rpm, .deb and a whole
lot of other package type files.
