I first tried asking this in an ubuntu group but did not get an answer I
could understand so I am asking you all since I generally get an answer I
can understand and use from this group.
I have a ubuntu edgie set up.
I use gnome desktop
I have a olympus camera wherre the flash card seems to be
corrupted - the camera cannot format it.
one of the things I want to try before giving up on the flash card it
to have the computer format it as fat 16.
however when I put it in the usb reader and connect that to the computer
what happens is that some component of gnome recognizes it as a "phot
card" and launches this unwanted requestor that asks me if i want to
import photos. so i turn that requestor off and bring up gparted adn
unmount the card from within gparted and mark it to be formatted as a
fat16 drive and then do the apply from gparted and part way through the
gparted formatting the unhelpfil application about recognizing
a photo card and importing it pops up which causes gparted to report a
failure in formatting the flash card.
grrrrrrrrr.
we tried formatting the thing on our MAC and unfortunately the MAC leaves
some files on the photocard which I don't want.
I admit that the card itself may be dead - at least as far as the
camera is concerned - but I don't like having an option that insists on
stepping in and doing something automatically that I cannot stop.
