1) Check yast2->network->network cards (think that is it)
   a) does it show the card and configured for dhcp?
   b) make sure it is 'user controllable' (think that is the term)
2) look in /var/log/NetworkManager and /var/log/messages

There will/should be information about the card and why it can't
start. 

I helped a Kurt and there was a string about the firmware not being
loaded, so I googled and about 10 minutes later it was working.
