Rich,

As an Acolyte who is Trying to follow the Blessed Path of the
Pure Linux computer, I fully understand your Sin and your
Revulsion and having Sinned, and the Reluctance with which
you had to Confess to the Assembled Linux Congregation to cleanse
your Soul.

I confess, I had the same Needs as you did, Quickbooks.
But, I managed to avoid Serving the Mammon in Redmond:
instead, my Spouse saved my purity by offering me her Apple.
Contrary to what happened to Adam long before me, the Apple kept
me from having to Know Evil and I am not yet Despoiled.

Admittedly, Quickbooks Apple version is not identical to the
Windows one since it doesn't use a proprietary database but
(I've been told) MySQL. So, support for the Apple quickbooks is
not so widespread as it is for Windows (but, I found some thanks
to this mailing list). And, if you knew what you were doing
on the Apple, which under its nice screen runs a version of linux,
you might even be able to convert it to linux yourself. I can't.

Now, I have to admit that for other reasons of compatibility
with the various US Government systems I may have to buckle
too and get at least one Windows box running, but I'll try
to resist that as much as possible. In fact, some members of
this group might want to ask Congress whether the US Government
doesn't squash competition if its various interfaces with the
public, contractors, etc. is Microsoft-only. It shouldn't be.

Go forth and Try the Apple: don't sin more than necessary.

Nino

ps: I'll be happy to give you some feedback on how to set
up a DCAA-compliant accounting system. We now have one.
