Briefly speaking, you want to use something like gparted to shrink the 
partition(s) you have for linux to leave room at the end of the disk.  
Then you want to install Windows, using that free space only.  Windows 
might overwrite the MBR, so it would be a good idea to have a copy of 
GRUB on a removable disk, but I found that I can boot into my linux 
system just using something like an Ubuntu install disk doing a chroot.  
Then, use grub-install /dev/hda to reinstall grub into the master boot 
record.
